Bürger Uni – „Can our climate still be saved?“

The Bürger-Uni was launched in 2015 with the aim of providing interested citizens with free access to scientific topics. Since 2019, the TUM Heilbronn Campus has been a partner of the events. Here, emphasis is placed on making knowledge and science on current, socially relevant topics, which contain a strong scientific as well as socio-political relevance, accessible to everyone.

The event is aimed in particular at residents of Heilbronn and people of the region of all ages who are interested in scientific topics.

Can Our Climate Still Be Saved?

International politics is failing to reverse the trend: global greenhouse gas emissions continue to rise despite the Paris Climate Agreement. From a scientific point of view, there is, therefore, no climate protection. To save the planet from dangerous overheating, a complete restructuring of the global energy systems will be needed in the coming decades: away from fossil fuels and towards renewable energies.

Germany should lead the way with courage. This scares many people because the challenge is indeed enormous. They fear far-reaching changes. Germany embarked on the path to renewable energies many years ago and has celebrated enormous successes. Germany was and is a role model, with many countries looking to us expectantly.

In his lecture, the renowned climate researcher Mojib Latif explains clearly and vividly the ways out of the climate crisis. He motivates people to take courageous action and shows why decisive commitment is indispensable.
